Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth has singled out teenage defender Logan Dobbs as a key figure in the club's strong start to the League Two season. Dobbs, 19, scored his first senior goal in a 2-0 win against Tranmere last weekend and has started all but one league match this term.
Ainsworth described the young defender as an unexpected success. "Logan Dobbs has been a surprise package for me this year," the manager said. He also noted the fans' reaction to the player's breakthrough moment, adding, "Songs were sung from the stands saying [Dobbs] is one of our own, so when he got his first goal in front of the fans."
Dobbs's emergence has been vital for Gillingham, who currently sit fourth in the table with 12 points from seven games. His headed opener against Tranmere was followed by a second goal from Ronan Chapman Hale, securing the three points. The team's form has been excellent, with three wins and two draws in their last five matches, including a commanding 3-0 victory over Bristol Rovers last week.
