Gillingham FC is looking to upgrade their recruitment approach with the help of analytics, according to owner Brad Galinson. The club has slumped to four successive defeats and is currently mid-table in League Two. Galinson believes that by combining traditional scouting methods with data analysis, they can make more informed decisions when it comes to signing new players. He has ordered a modernisation programme to implement this new approach. The club has good scouts and a network of people who can watch players, but Galinson feels that relying solely on this method is 'old school'. He wants to use analytics to gain a better understanding of players' strengths and weaknesses. This summer, the club will be aggressively merging traditional scouting methods with data analysis. Galinson and his wife Shannon took over the club midway through the 2022-23 season and their investment helped to keep the club in the league. However, the club has gone through four managers since then, and Galinson remains convinced that Gareth Ainsworth and assistant Richard Dobson are the right men to oversee the rebuild. He believes that this is not a leadership issue, but rather a matter of time and patience.
