Gillingham's under-21s suffered a 4-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town in the Premier League under-21 cup, with Harry Webster scoring a late consolation goal. The Gills' youngsters were well beaten in their opening group game of the competition, with George Sebine scoring two goals for Huddersfield. The match was played at the Accu Stadium, and Gillingham's team included returning midfielder Cameron Antwi, who played the first half as he continues his recovery from two operations. The Gills' technical director, Richard Dobson, has been at the forefront of getting the club's young players extra opportunities, and said of entering the new competition: "The players will develop as a group with us. Playing our way, training with us and training with our first-team which I think is vitally important." Gillingham's under-21s are also expected to be heavily involved in the three EFL Trophy group-stage matches and the Kent Senior Cup fixtures.
