Ainsworth Aims to Revive Gillingham's Season with New Players
Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth has set his sights on making a noticeable difference this season, aiming to see a more dynamic and improved team after bringing in 12 new players. The Gills kick off their League Two campaign against Walsall on Saturday.
Ainsworth believes the new signings will bring different attributes to the team, which he hopes will translate into better performances and an increased energy level. He stated, 'I'm hoping you'll see the proper us this Saturday,' referring to a Gillingham side that has not been seen for some time.
'You can change styles slightly, but you can't change personal attributes. You can't make someone quicker, cleverer or braver, and I believed I needed to do that with a few players last year and I couldn't,' Ainsworth explained. 'The players I've signed have got different attributes this season, so I'm hoping you'll see a performance difference [and an] energy difference.'
While Ainsworth cannot guarantee results, he is confident that the changes will positively impact the team's overall performance.
New Players and Their Impact
The addition of these new players includes various positions across the squad. Ainsworth highlighted the importance of bringing in individuals who can fill gaps and bring fresh qualities to the team. 'I've signed players with different attributes, which I believe will make a significant difference,' he said.
Fans' Expectations
Ainsworth is keen for fans to see a noticeable change in how the team plays this season. He emphasized that the performance on the pitch is what matters most and that results are a by-product of these changes. 'I want the fans to see a difference in the way we're playing,' he concluded.
The Gills will be looking to build momentum from their new signings as they face Walsall, with Ainsworth and his team aiming for a strong start to the season.
