Gillingham have appointed Steven Craig as their new assistant manager. The 45-year-old joins the League Two club from Scottish non-league side Gala Fairydean Rovers. He played under Gills boss Gareth Ainsworth when he was in charge of Wycombe Wanderers, making 70 appearances between 2013 and 2015. Craig spent most of his playing career with Scottish clubs including Falkirk, Motherwell, Aberdeen, Livingston, Dundee, Ross County and Partick Thistle. The appointment comes as a surprise to many, with Craig telling the club website that it 'came out of the blue'. He was approached by the club two or three weeks ago and was asked if he would be interested in the role. Craig said that he 'can't wait to get started' and that the chance to work with Gills boss Gareth Ainsworth and the rest of the coaching staff was 'too good to turn down'.
