Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth is set to undergo heart surgery and will be away from the club for a few weeks. The 52-year-old's problem was identified by a routine League Managers' Association (LMA) health check at the end of last season. Ainsworth took charge of the Gills' 1-0 home defeat by Harrogate Town on Saturday, which ended their unbeaten start to the season. Long-term assistant Richard Dobson will take over while Ainsworth recovers from the 'routine' operation. Ainsworth said the problem was identified by the LMA health check and that he will be off for a few weeks before returning to the club. Chairman Brad Galinson added that the club has known about Ainsworth's upcoming surgery for many weeks and has no doubt that the team is in safe hands in his absence.
