Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth has vowed to stick to his principles. The 53-year-old came under fire in the second half of last season at Priestfield as the Gills faded after a bright start to the campaign. They won just two of their last 13 games in League 2 – and tasted victory only six times after early November. But a new season with 11 new signings brings new optimism and Ainsworth won’t be changing his ways for anyone. On the outside noise, he stated: “I don't hear a lot of it because I've never been on social media in my life. “I'm probably one of the few people. I've never used AI. I've never been on social media. I am a dinosaur to my kids, honestly. “I get the odd tweet flashed at me and they say, ‘Dad, look at this’. But it's usually a funny one. I honestly don't see anything. “Nobody gets in here (my head). Nobody does. “I'm quite proud to say that every decision I've ever made, every decision has been me, 100% me and advice from my coaching staff, who I tell not to look at anything, not to be influenced by anything. “That's my way and I'll stand by that way. If it's wrong, it's wrong. But that's the way I am. “It's got to be the way. The amount of people who tell me that social media is a nightmare. “I'm like, ‘why is everyone on it then?’ But I'm certainly not. Am I missing out? I don't think so. I enjoy my golf. I enjoy my music. And I really enjoy managing Gillingham with no noise. “You hear the shouts on the pitch, obviously, and people like that. But, you know, I've had 50,000 people singing, ‘you're getting sacked in the morning’ at Leeds at me so I can take most things now.
