Gillingham's George Lapslie is set to join Bradford City. The midfielder has agreed a deal to leave Gillingham.

What happened?

Lapslie was not included in the Gills squad for the Boxing Day loss at Colchester despite scoring the equaliser in their previous game against Cheltenham.

Manager Mark Bonner said he was absent through "illness" on Thursday. Lapslie is thought to be coming to an agreement over the remainder of his contract.

Why it matters for Gillingham

Lapslie's exit will be a significant loss for Gillingham, who are currently 17th in League Two, 53 pts, 13W-14D-19L from 46 games, recent form WLLLD. Their last result was a 1-0 win against Shrewsbury on 2026-05-02.

What comes next?

The transfer deal is expected to be completed soon, with Lapslie set to be one of Graham Alexander's first recruits of the transfer window. Lapslie had been on City's wish list for various transfer windows before he made a £75,000 switch to Gillingham two years ago. He has made 79 appearances for Gillingham, scoring eight times.

Gillingham are 34 points behind leaders Bromley in the title race. Their recent form has been inconsistent, with 2W-0D-3L in their last five games. However, they are on a two-game winning run, which will give them hope for the rest of the season.
